Walk the outside in the rain
- Gutters overflowing
- Downspouts dumping at the foundation
- Ground sloping toward the house
Look under the house
- Standing water and where it collects
- Wet insulation, white lines on the walls, a musty smell
- Is there a sump basin? Does the pump run?
What fixes what
- Gutter and rain drain fixes
- Footing drains
- Sump pumps
- Vapor barriers: what they do and do not do
